French viola bow made by Francois Xavier Bazin, ca. 1860.

A good old French viola bow made by Francois Xavier Bazin ca. 1860. The bowmaking dynasty of a very important and highly esteemed Bazin family started with    Francois Bazin (1824-1864), continued with Charles Nicolas Bazin (1847-1915) and Charles Louis Bazin (1881-1953), ended with Charles Alfred Bazin (1907-1987). The work of F. Bazin is very interesting, showing influence of Peccatte brothers and Simon family.

This particular example is inspired by Pierre Simon model. The bow is in a fine state of preservation. The length of the stick is 72.4 cm and the weight is of the bow is 68 g. This is a very nice sounding and handling bow with a fine (typical middle 19th century) playing charachter.
