German very fine violin by Sebastian Klotz made in Mettenwald, 1742.
A very fine violin made by Sebastian Klotz in Mittenwald in 1742, as indicated by the original label. Son of Mathias Klotz, Sebastian (1695-1775) is considered to be one of the best makers in the family. This is a superb example of the maker’s work inspired by Amati model with excellent arching and sound. The instrument is in a very fine and pure state of preservation (few minor repairs only, no sound post or bass bar cracks).The tone of this instrument is of a high level with a surprising power and beautiful colors. The length over the back is 35.4 cm.
