French viola bow made by N. Maire ca. 1840
A superb, rare, old French viola bow made by N. Maire ca. 1840, branded on the stick. This is a magnificent example in a remarkable state of preservation. The stick is spectacularly flamed dark red brown pernambuco, strong with a finest flexibility, soloist level tonal quality, great balance and handling. This rare article is suitable for a demanding soloist or a collector. The length of the stick is 73.3 cm, the weight of the bow is 63 g with around 1/2 g tinsel/silk winding, without grip. This bow will weight 69 g with the regular silver winding and leather grip.
