French violin bow by Nicolas Maline, ca. 1855

A fine French violin bow made by Nicolas Maline ca. 1855. Son of violin and bow maker Guillaume Maline, Nicolas was most likely initially trained in his father’s shop in Mirecourt and later probably worked for Etienne Pajeot workshop. At that time Nicolas met N. Maire and around 1840 he started to work for J.B. Vuillaume (most likely from Mirecourt). During this period and and after being named to the Legion of Honor with his military service in 1849 the style of the work was influenced by Peccatte.
This is a very nice and refined example inspired perhaps from the work of Etienne Pajeot. This wonderful sounding and performing bow is in an excellent, very pure state of preservation. The length of the stick is 73 cm and the weight of the bow is 61.5 g.
