French violin bow made by N. Maire ca. 1840

A rare French violin bow made by N. Maire ca. 1840. Nicolas Remy Maire was trained probably by Etienne Pajeot and later worked for Gand, J.B. Vuillaume and Chanot. The style of N. Maire from around 1850 was influenced by the work of D. Peccatte. The work of Nicolas Maire was always highly esteemed by collectors and musicians, but in resent years it became even more in focus and in demand taking an important place among the best French makers from the period. This is an outstanding example of the maker’s work in a remarkably fresh, pristine condition. This wonderful violin bow is suitable for a demanding soloist or a collector. The length of the stick is 73.3 cm, the weight of the bow is 62.5 g.
