French violin by Auguste Sebastien Philippe Bernardel Pere, 1849.
A very fine French violin made by Auguste Sebastien Philippe Bernardel Pere in Paris in 1849, as indicated on the maker’s label, also signed to the back. Bernardel Pere was a pupil of Lupot and one of the best and most interesting French makers. This is a wonderful instrument made with an inspiration of Stradivarius model. It is in excellent state of preservation. The level of workmanship, choice of materials, varnish composition, appearance and tonal quality can place this instrument in the highest category of “golden period” French violin making masterpieces. The length over the back is 35.9 cm.
