Very fine old German viola bow by C.W. Knopf, ca. 1825
A very fine old German viola bow made by Christian Wilhelm Knopf ca. 1825. This is a beautiful example, also excellent sounding viola bow. The stick is superior quality orange brown pernambuco, round, strong with a perfect balance and a first class tone. The later made frog and button (probably by a member of Knopf family)are ebony with nickel mountings. The length of the stick is 73.6 cm, the weight of the bow is 72 g. This is a high level bow, comparable with bows made by French great masters contemporary of Knopf in a very good condition, suitable for a fine musician.
