German viola bow by C.F.W. Knopf, ca. 1840.

An very rare, superb old German viola bow made by Christian Friedrich Wilhelm Knopf ca. 1840. C.F.W. Knopf was one of the most interesting and finest old German masters. His work has sometimes inspired and has similarities with French contemporaries like Pajeot and Maire. This is a very beautiful examples in a very excellent sate of preservation. The stick is red brown pernambuco of superior choice, octagonal, strong with excellent flexibility, solo level sound and handling. The frog and button are ebony with silver mountings. The length of the stick is 73.25 cm and the weight of the bow is 69 g. This bow is highly recommended for a fine musician or a demanding collector.
