Violin bow made by Nikolai Kittel ca.1855.

A rare, superb violin bow made by Nikolai Kittel ca.1855 in St. Petersburg, Russian Empire. Nikolai Kittel (1805-1868) was of Austrian descent born in St. Petersburg in 1805. His great bows followed F.X. Tourte model in a personal way and Kittel was named the “Russian Tourte”. The stick is a superb, nicely flamed red-brown pernambuco, the frog and button are ebony with silver mountings. The length of the stick is 72.7cm, the weight of the bow is 58.5 g. This is a remarkable example and outstanding playing bow, suitable for a very fine musician including a soloist.
