French violin bow by Andre Richaume, ca. 1950.

A very fine French violin bow made by Andre Richaume made in Paris ca. 1950. This is a superb example in excellent state of preservation, also a very nice sounding and handling bow. The length of the stick is 73 cm and the weight of the bow is 60 g.

Andre Georges Richaume (1905-1966) came from a family of violin and bow makers. Marie Augustine Marthe Fetique was Andre’s mother and a sister of celebrated bow makers Victor Fetique and Jules Fetique. Andre Richaume joined the firm of his uncle Victor Fetique in 1927 in Paris. Prior to joining Victor Fetique Andre apprenticed with Emile Francois Ouchard. Andre Richaume established himself independently In 1932. In 1955 Richaume was presented an award ” Mellieur Ouvrier de France” ( one of the best craftsmen in France). Andre Richaume, one of the best 20th century French bowmakers. A. Richaume created consistently high quality bows with a fine balance between strength and flexibility.
Bows made by Richaume are highly appreciated by fine musicians today and used by some wonderful performers, including the great David Oistrakh.

This is a remarkable example and a first class violin bow in a very fine state of preservation. The stick is red brown pernambuco of superior choice, octagonal in shape, branded “A. RICHAUME A PARIS”, 72.8 cm long and the weight of the bow is 62 g.
