A rare French violin bow by Nicolas Leonard Tourte, c. 1800.

A very rare French violin bow made by Nicolas Leonard Tourte (1746-1807) c. 1800, original in all parts. Nicolas Leonard, the older brother of the great Fransois Xavier started training in his father’s shop probably around 1755. He took over the family shop in 1764 (just 18 years old). Two brothers started to collaborate probably around 1775-1780, creating magnificent bows and defining a modern bow model.
This is a beautiful example that survived for over 225 years with all original parts and in a very good condition. It is a wonderful performing bow from highly esteemed period of Nicolas Leonard Tourte work. The stick is dark red brown pernambuco, frog and button are ebony with silver mountings. The length of the stick is 73.3 cm and the weight of the bow is 58 g.
