French viola bow made by Jean-Joseph Martin ca. 1860 for J.B. Vuillaume.
A rare, fine old French viola bow made by Jean-Joseph Martin ca. 1860 for J.B. Vuillaume, branded “vuillaume a paris” (frog and button button are also by J.J. Martin but from another bow). This is excellent example and a superb playing bow in a very good state of preservation.
The stick is dark red-brown pernambuco of excellent choice, round, strong with fine flexibility, excellent sound and handling. The frog and button are ebony with silver mountings. The length of the stick is 72.8 cm and the weight is of the bow is 67.5 g with light tinsel winding. This is a nice example from highly regarded period of work.
