German violin bow made by Johann Wilhelm Knopf and Heinrich August Rau, ca. 1885.

A very fine German violin bow made by Johann Wilhelm Knopf (1835-1912) in collaboration with Heinrich August Rau ca. 1885 for Richard Weichold firm. Son of C.W. Knopf Jr., Johann Wilhelm was trained probably by his uncle Christian Friedrich Knopf. J.W. Knopf was a great master who produced high quality, beautiful bows (mostly inspired by Tourte model). This excellent and very interesting example is in immaculate state of preservation. This is a powerful, wonderful sounding and handling violin bow. The stick is dark red brown pernambuco of superior selection, octagonal, the frog and button are ebony with silver mountings The length of the stick is 73.1 cm and the weight of the bow is 62 g.
