French violin bow by Dominique “Justin” Poirson, ca.1890.
A fine French violin bow made by Justin Poirson, ca.1890. The stick is red brown pernambuco, round. The frog and button are ebony with silver mountings. The length of the stick is 72.9 cm and the weight of the bow is 59 g. This is a fine sounding example in a very good state of preservation. J. Poirson was trained by the great Nicolas Maire from 1865 and worked for J.B. Vuillaume until 1875. In 1875 Poirson joined the firm of Gand and Bernardel and worked there until opening his shop in 1880. This nice bow is ready to play.
